Tip amount is bill × tip percent ÷ 100. A $86.40 bill at 20% is $17.28. Total bill is the original amount plus that tip. Nothing else (tax, service fees, or delivery) is added unless you already included it in the bill field.

In the U.S., 15–20% is a common sit-down range, with 18–20% typical for good table service and 22–25% for exceptional service. Counter service, takeout, and delivery often use a smaller percent or a flat amount. Local customs and posted service charges vary—use a preset or type a custom percent.

Party size must be a whole number of 1 or more. Tip per person is the tip divided by that count; total per person is the tipped total divided by that count. The split is even. If you want an uneven split, run the calculator twice with each person’s share of the bill.

Many people tip on the pre-tax subtotal; others tip on the total including tax. This calculator uses whatever number you enter as the bill. Enter the pre-tax amount to tip on food and drink only, or the after-tax total if that is your habit.
